Medical Condition : Osteoporosis

This is the progressive loss of bone and thinning of bone tissue.

Note: Osteopina is thinning of bones, typically the stage before true osteoporosis.  Generally a diagnosis must be confirmed by 2 bone marrow density (BMD) tests done 12 months apart: one for diagnosis and the second one for follow-up.

Questions to ask:

þ

What is the latest BMD reading?  Between 2.5 and 4.0 is generally acceptable.

þ Any history of fractures?  If so describe.  Compression fractures?  Stress fractures?  If vertebrae involved, how many?  Were they sequential to each other?
þ Rx. and supplement: Name (correct spelling), daily dosage and length of time taken.
þ Has Rx. treatment been suggested but refused or non-compliant?
þ

Is the osteo associated with another condition requiring steroid therapy?
